Short Selling the U.S. Military In Iraq
When you short sell a stock you make money when the price of the stock goes down. The Democrats seem to be short selling the U.S. military in Iraq.
As Instapundit writes: "Unfortunately, too many members of the U.S. political classes have now put themselves in a situation where success is politically more dangerous than failure." If Bush's Iraq policy is a success all the Democrats who are calling for withdraw will look like weak quitters. As a result, these Democrats are politically better off if the U.S. military does fail in Iraq.
This certainly doesn't mean that the Democrats want the U.S. military to fail because many of them may well care more about their country and the U.S. military than they do about their own political careers.
We don't allow members of corporate boards to short sell the stock of their own company because it creates too many conflicts of interest. It's unfortunate that the only real way the Democrats can oppose Bush's Iraq policy is for them to politically short sell the U.S. military in Iraq.
