Appeasement

The U.S. wants to put some missile defense facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic. In an effort to stop the now free Poland and Czech Republic from militarily siding with the U.S., Russia has warned that "Russia's military is capable of firing missiles at Poland and the Czech Republic if they agreed to host a U.S. missile shield."

So Poland and the Czech Republic can either

(a) stand with the U.S., or

(b) appease Russia and hope that this appeasement causes Russia to be nice to them.

Given their histories I think I know what Poland and the Czech Republic are going to do.
