Risking the universe?
A new powerful laser has been built. This laser may have produced an intensity of light greater than that created by anything else in the history of the universe.
Isn't this kind of dangerous? How likely is it that this laser could punch a hole in the fabric of space/time/something important and destroy everything? If the chance of this kind of destruction is even one in a trillion we probably shouldn't be risking it.
Now if a natural phenomenon such as black holes or colliding cosmic rays created energy intensities as great as this laser could, then I wouldn't worry because if this high level of intensity could destroy the universe then the universe would probably have been long destroyed. But if the laser beam really creates a higher energy density than anything else that has ever existed then we should have waited to test the laser until physicists developed a successful theory of everything.
I admit that my knowledge of physics is rather limited so this post might just be pseudoscience inanity.
