Attacking the pharmaceutical industry

In tonight's debate both Obama and Clinton admitted that they want to reduce the profits of pharmaceutical companies. I strongly suspect that if pharmaceutical companies only produced "non-vital" products such as drugs that fight hair-loss, then politicians would leave them alone. After all, politicians never speak out about the need to lower the prices of comic books or candy. But because drug companies make stuff that people really, really need, politicians feel justified in calling for lower drug company profits.
