The Teddy Bear Criminal

A British school teacher in the Sudan may well be sentenced to 40 lashes for allowing her students to name a teddy bear Mohammad.

I suspect that most Americans who read this consider the Sudanese to be barbarians for punishing the teacher even though she clearly meant no harm.

But, as I wrote a few days ago some American kids got suspended from school for saying the word "noose" around black people even though the kids were talking about how to tie a knot. True, these kids won't get tortured, but they are still being punished for offending others when they meant to give no offense.
