Believing in Evil

Probable presidential candidate Fred Thompson says the U.S. is battling "evil."

I think that the inability or refusal to recognize evil in the world is one of the prime faults of liberalism. I think that evil has meaning that transcends culture. Evil is objective. To be evil means that you take pleasure from harming others.

9/11 damaged the strategic interests of Bin Laden because it mobilized the U.S. against him. But I suspect that Bin Laden considers 9/11 to have been a success because of the pain it inflicted on Americans. Bin Laden and his supporters, therefore, are evil.
