Smith College Kicks Out Coke

Smith College, the place where I work, has decided to kick Coke off of campus. Coke will not be allowed to participate in Smith College's "upcoming soft drink bidding process" because of "Coca-Cola’s business practices in Colombia and India."

Because there will now be fewer firms competing for Smith's soft drink business, Smith will get a worse deal. We will therefore have to either raise tuition or cut back on services. And I suspect that Coke won't be hiring any Smith students in the near future.

I have no idea of what Coke is accused of doing in Colombia and India. But since most left-wing college professors have an insanely negative view of capitalism and international trade I'm very suspicious of Smith's ability to intelligently evaluate any accusations against Coke.
