Sanctions on employers for hiring illegals
According to the WSJ$ the new immigration bill would force chief executives, under penalty of perjury, to certify that all their workers are legal. Furthermore, "Penalties for hiring an illegal worker would be increased to $5,000 a worker for a first offense from $250, and as much as $75,000 a worker for a third offense."
The natural reaction of companies will be to very carefully check on all potential employees who speak with an accent. Of course, civil rights groups will claim that this is profiling. So, if firms do profile, they will be hit with civil rights suits, if they don't they will be fined for violating immigration laws. I predict lots of new work for lawyers if the immigration bill passes.
