High IQ babies
Daily Pundit discusses an idea his friend has to pay rich people to have more children. The idea is that rich people tend to be more intelligent and so paying them to have more children would "increase to some extent our chances of having more bright kids coming up the pipeline, and maybe then we’ll have a fighting chance against the Chinese and the Indians."
I strongly suspect that within 10 years or so we will have artificial ways of increasing human intelligence.
For example, imagine that in 10 years we could perform DNA tests to determine an embryos' future IQ. Parents could then produce 20 embryos and pick the one that had the most desirable features including having a high IQ. And of course genetic engineering may further raise babies' IQs.
I predict that by 2020 the average baby born in the U.S. will have an IQ above 120. Furthermore, if we learn enough about the genetics behind intelligence then it's possible that in the next thirty years or so the average U.S. baby will be more intelligent than anyone alive today.
