Are we winners or losers in the lottery of life?

Virtual Economics points out how much richer we are then those that have lived before us. He then writes "always remember that you are living in the C21st and have therefore come first in the lottery of life."

I disagree. True, the time we are living in is much, much better than any other time in previous human existence. But I suspect that the world is about to become much better. By the end of this century humanity may well achieve immortality and start spreading throughout the universe.

Let's assume that within 100 years we do achieve immortality and start to populate the universe. Under this assumption the vast, vast majority of humans that will ever be born will live forever. So the very tiny fraction of humans that lived and died before the age of immortality are the ultimate losers in the lottery of life.
