Don't increase unemployment benefits
Some Democrats want to increase unemployment benefits to stimulate the economy and so help avoid a recession. But if you increase unemployment benefits you decrease the cost to workers of being unemployed. This will decrease the unemployeds' incentives to look for new jobs. It will also cause workers to put in less effort into their jobs because the cost to them of being fired will go down. Increased unemployment benefits, therefore, will decrease the total number of hours worked by Americans and so will make it more likely that our economy will enter a recession.
