Tobacco Subsidies

During tonight's Republican presidential debate several candidates said we needed to keep agricultural subsidies so we never become dependant on other nations for our food. This justification, however, doesn't quite work for tobacco subsidies. But I bet when campaigning for the South Carolina primary the candidates will still manage to find a reason to support such subsidies.
