A consequence of political correctness at colleges
Politically incorrect professor Bryan Caplan writes that he thinks the "PC threat to higher education is greatly overblown."
Well, imagine you are a conservative college student who voted for Bush and supported the Iraq War. You are considering getting a PhD in history or political science and becoming a college professor. You then read in the NYT that:
"The appointment of Donald H. Rumsfeld, the former defense secretary, as a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution is drawing fierce protests from faculty members and students at Stanford University"
"Some 2,100 professors, staff members, students and alumni have signed an online petition protesting Mr. Rumsfeld’s appointment."
Now would you think that as a conservative who perhaps shares many of Rumsfeld's views on foreign policy you would have much of a chance of ever getting a job at a school such as Stanford?
Political correctness on campuses deters many conservatives from even trying to become college professors. Because this harm is hidden, much of the diversity-destroying consequences of political correctness are largely invisible.
