Muhammad is No 2 boy's name in UK

From Timesonline: "Muhammad is now second only to Jack as the most popular name for baby boys in Britain and is likely to rise to No 1 by next year."

I wonder how being named Muhammad influences a man's religiosity. I bet it has more influence in Western than Islamic countries. If you live in Britain and are named Muhammad everyone knows that you were raised Muslim. If you don't outwardly observe your faith, people you know will see it as an act of disrespect to your parents. In contrast, if you live in a Muslim country everyone will assume you were raised as a Muslim and so having the name Muhammad signals less.

Also, if there is discrimination against Muslims in some country then men might avoid Islamic practices to escape this discrimination. But anyone with the name Muhammad will probably suffer this discrimination regardless of their religious practices and so the cost of practicing Islam will be lower.
