DNA decoding

The NYT writes about how the cost of deciphering individual genomes is falling. Many people will soon have their individual DNA decoded.

As more people have their genomes decoded, scientists will discover more about how DNA affects health. This is because for individuals with decoded DNAs, researchers will be able to compare DNA traits with individual medical histories. This will in turn increase the benefits to individuals of having their DNA decoded, which of course will increase the number of people who pay for the decoding. We will quickly reach a point where the benefits of having your DNA decoded are so great that it will be near child abuse to not quickly analyze a newborn baby's DNA .
