Closer to a Singularity
Physicists have created "a six-photon "cluster" state, which could bring the physical realization of a quantum computer one step closer".
A quantum computer, from what I understand, would be able to perform some computations that would take a universe full of ordinary computers longer than the lifetime of the universe to perform.
Such technology just might help bring humanity to a technological utopia, or singularity, in this century.
The possibility of a technological singularity occurring is the most understudied issue in economics relative to the reasonable expected value of its future influence on the economy.
I wrote about the singularity here.
